Privacy Policy

Last updated November 2, 2026

This policy explains what information mjkalous.com (“the site”) collects, why, and the choices you have. In short: I collect only what's needed to send you the newsletter you ask for, answer your messages, and understand which pages are helpful. I never sell your information.

Newsletter (Kit)

When you subscribe, your first name and email address are sent to Kit (opens in a new tab)(formerly ConvertKit), the service that delivers the newsletter. Kit stores this information on my behalf and records basic engagement such as whether an email was opened. SeeKit's privacy policy (opens in a new tab).

To unsubscribe, click the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any newsletter email. You'll be removed immediately. You can also email michael@mjkalous.com and I'll remove you by hand.

Contact form

When you use the contact form, your name, email address, and message are delivered to my inbox throughResend (opens in a new tab), an email delivery service. They're used only to reply to you. Please don't include sensitive health information; this form is not a secure channel for counseling and does not create a counselor–client relationship.

Google Analytics 4

If you click “Accept” on the cookie banner, the site loads Google Analytics 4, which uses cookies to collect information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, your approximate location (city level), device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site. I use this only in aggregate to learn which writing is helpful. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy (opens in a new tab). You can also opt out across all sites with theGoogle Analytics opt-out add-on (opens in a new tab).

Meta Pixel

If you accept cookies, the site also loads the Meta (Facebook) Pixel. It records visits and actions such as subscribing or clicking through to buy the book, so I can measure whether posts and ads on Facebook and Instagram are reaching the right people. Meta may link this activity to your Facebook or Instagram account under its ownprivacy policy (opens in a new tab). You can manage this in yourMeta ad preferences (opens in a new tab).

Embedded videos

Some pages include YouTube videos. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play. When you do, the video plays through YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and Google processes your viewing under its own privacy policy (opens in a new tab).

Your cookie choices

No analytics or advertising cookies are set unless you accept them. You can change your choice at any time:open cookie preferences. Clearing your browser's site data will also reset it.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Vercel (opens in a new tab), which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and reliability. The site also usesVercel Web Analytics (opens in a new tab)to count page views. It uses no cookies and doesn't identify or follow you across sites.

Contact and speaking-request forms use Vercel BotID to verify browser requests and prevent automated spam. This security check runs when you use those forms and is separate from optional analytics and advertising.

Children

The site is not directed to children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated date.
