When we feel moved or called to produce a book or something else that could be helpful to others, which is our calling as Christians, we too often fall prey to fear. We think of all that could go wrong and doubt ourselves. We question our abilities, our knowledge, or our motives. We worry about money, time, and the emotional and relational costs we will meet. With an inward view, we look at our flaws and past failures. We see our limitations and lack of resources. When we look only at ourselves, we forget the One who has placed the desire to create, serve, and take action in our hearts in the first place. We short-circuit our power and come unplugged from our main source of power: God. Psalm 37:4 states: “Delight yourselves in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” This does not mean that He gives us all that our lusts or worldly desires seek. No! But as we draw near to Him, our desires align with His purposes and will, moving us to desire what He wants for us. Sometimes that might be what we want as well - a home, a job, or a partner. But, as we move in alignment with His will and feel that calling or desire to produce or create, God empowers us to achieve that goal, despite past failures, weaknesses, and limitations. He promises that we can do all things through Him who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). He will provide the resources, the strength, the guidance, and knowledge we need to accomplish what we are called to do. He empowers us to stay the course, withstand opposition, and stand firm upon the promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us. When we desire to love and bless others, He will supply what we need to accomplish it. Often, in marriage or any other intimate relationship, this requires humility, forgiveness, and fortitude. We must not quit. In marriage, we must be intent on changing course when headed in the wrong direction. This same determination to love and commit endows us with the ability to bring hope, healing, and positive change into the lives of others and ourselves. Therefore, stand firm in your calling, and with prayer, faith, and courage, don the strength God provides. You will find that as we follow His call, we are also blessed and encouraged to continue in His command to love HIm, our neighbors, and ourselves. May we find the hope we need to step out of our fear and step into His light and power. May you be blessed in your endeavors to love. Michael

The Way

We come from light into a dimmer world where doubt, questions, wonder, and awe exist in each breath. We walk upon the earth and long to fly.

A black-billed magpie in flight over sagebrush, with snowy mountains blurred behind it.

Reborn

Bound in chains of self-regret, I find myself alone. Only God, of His own will, can reconstruct my heart.
